Arequipa to Colca and Puno 4-day trekking trip

4 Days. Arequipa, Colca Trekking, Puno. Travel in a 4x4 Land Cruiser departing from Arequipa and visiting the Colca Valley with a trek inside the Colca Canyon, the deepest on the planet, with a trip to Puno.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arequipa - Cabanaconde

Early in the morning, we'll embark on an incredible 4-hour tour in our 4x4 vehicle to the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world (3,400 meters), passing through Pampa Cañahuas in the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home to vicuñas and alpacas (South American camelids). The highest point of the journey is 4,900 meters above sea level. Along the way, we'll see pre-Columbian terraces still cultivated by the native Collagua people. The Colca Canyon is a great place for adventure sports. Overnight in the town of Cabanaconde.

Day 2: CABANACONDE – Cruz del Condor – SAN JUAN DE CHUCHO

We will begin our tour at the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where we will spend approximately one hour observing the flight of the world's largest bird. After watching the condor, we will continue to the town of Cabanaconde (3,400 meters above sea level). From there, we will begin our approximately 4-hour hike, descending 1,200 meters to reach the village of San Juan de Chuccho (2,200 meters above sea level), located on the right bank of the Colca Valley. There, we will rest, taking in the extraordinary view of the canyon walls and enjoying some time with the local people.

Day 3: SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO - COSNIRGUA - MALATA - SANGALLE

After breakfast, we will continue our journey towards El Oasis (Sangalle, 2,100 m.a.s.l.), passing through the villages of Cosñirgua and Malata (2,450 m.a.s.l.). In these areas, we will find a variety of fruits and have the opportunity to interact with the locals, who are always happy to share a few words and pleasant moments with visitors. The village of Malata is known for its 17th-century church. After a hike of approximately 3 hours, we will arrive at Sangalle. Here, we can enjoy the natural pools (24°C) and soak in the charm of the area while we wait for lunch. The afternoon is free until dinnertime. At night, weather permitting, we can admire a breathtaking sky filled with stars.

Day 4: SANGALLE - CABANACONDE – PUNO

Very early in the morning, we will depart for Cabanaconde, where we will have breakfast. On the way back, we will visit the villages of Yanque and Maca. This is a great opportunity to appreciate the way of life of the inhabitants of these villages, which has not changed much since Inca times. Time for your buffet lunch. We depart for the city of Puno on another tourist bus. On this journey, we will visit the Imata Stone Forest, where we will observe flamingos and other native birds of the area.

NOTE:

For this trek, only It's necessary to bring a daypack or hiking backpack with the essentials. A sleeping bag isn't necessary since the bungalows at the campsites have rooms equipped for overnight stays.

Water can be purchased in the villages and communities we pass through during the hike, and there are streams where we can fill our bottles and drink the water after purifying it.
