Inca Jungle Trekking. The Inca Jungle route has been created as an alternative way to reach the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. During this route, we will have the opportunity to go downhill biking, hike through the jungle along part of the Inca Trail, and finally arrive at Machu Picchu.
Day 1: CUSCO-SANTA MARIA: 55 KM BICYCLE RIDE
After breakfast at your hotel, our transportation will pick you up at approximately 6:15 a.m. for a 2.5-minute transfer to Abra Málaga (4,350 m.a.s.l.), the starting point of our bicycle tour. After a briefing by our guide, you will be provided with all the necessary equipment for this type of activity. We will then begin the 3-hour (55 km) descent by bicycle to the village of Huamanmarca, where we will have our first lunch. Afterward, we will head to the village of Santa María, where we will spend our first night in basic accommodation (this route takes place in rural areas of the cloud forest, so there are no standard hotels). During the trip, we will experience the beauty of the snow-capped mountains, with the climate changing rapidly from dry and cold to hot and humid. Once we arrive in Santa María, we will have time to rest and enjoy the natural surroundings and the local people.
Dinner and overnight stay in a shared room (4 people per room) with private bathroom.
Overnight in basic accommodations.
Meal plan: lunch, dinner.
Day 2: SANTA MARÍA - SANTA TERESA: 23 KM TREK
After a hearty breakfast, at approximately 6:30 a.m., we will be ready to begin our first day of trekking towards Santa Teresa. The first two hours of our tour will be uphill. Along the way, we'll make several stops to learn more about the rich flora and fauna of the area. One of these stops will be at a local family's home where we'll relax for about 20 minutes and stock up on water and some delicious tropical fruits. Later, we'll cross a section of the Inca Trail that once connected the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu with the town of Vilcabamba. Here, our guide will explain more about Inca history and their communication system. At this point, we'll also have some of the most breathtaking views of the Huancarccasa Canyon. Afterward, we'll descend to the village of Quellomayo, where we'll stop for lunch. After a delicious lunch and a relaxing rest in the hammocks at our restaurant, we'll continue with the final two hours of hiking to the Cocalmayo hot springs. We'll have plenty of time to enjoy this special place. After the hot springs, we'll head to our final destination. Finally, we arrive at the village of Santa Teresa, where we will spend our second night in basic lodging (this route takes place in rural areas of the cloud forest, therefore there are no classified hotels).
