Climbing Chachani:
At an altitude of 6,075 meters, this snow-capped mountain is a 2.5-hour drive from Arequipa and is only accessible by 4WD vehicle. Chachani means "skirt" in Quechua and is divided into three sections.
Ángel: 5,825 meters.
Fátima: 5,900 meters.
Chachani: 6,075 meters.
Chachani is usually covered in snow and ice, so you'll need an ice axe and crampons. Bring all your warm clothing, as temperatures can be extremely cold in the mountains. You'll also need about 4 liters of water, as well as snacks like chocolate or candy (for energy).
Day 1: AREQUIPA - BASE CAMP
We begin our journey at 8:30 a.m., departing from the city of Arequipa for approximately 2 hours in our transport to 5,050 meters above sea level. From there, we will begin a 1.5-hour hike to base camp at 5,400 meters above sea level, where we will set up camp. After lunch, we will take an acclimatization hike uphill to the pass (approximately 120 meters higher) to acclimatize to the altitude. Dinner and overnight stay are included, keeping in mind that temperatures range between +5° and -15° Celsius.
Overnight in a tent

Day 2: BASE CAMP - SUMMIT - AREQUIPA
After breakfast, we will begin the ascent around 2:30 a.m. We'll begin by traversing the north face of Ángel (usually snow-covered), where you can see the city of Arequipa. Then we'll continue south of Pico Fátima, crossing another narrow snowfield to make the final push and reach the summit at 6,075 meters above sea level. The ascent takes between 5 and 6 hours. After some time to admire the view, we'll begin the descent, which takes an average of 2 to 3 hours to reach the campsite.
After collecting our equipment and luggage, we'll begin the return to our vehicle, which will be waiting to take us back to the city of Arequipa, arriving between 3:00 and 4:00 PM.
