Huarancante (5,426 m), Chila Range, Quehuisha Carhuasanta, Apacheta, Mismi (5,597 m)

The range forms the northern boundary of the Colca Canyon, running from west to east. The Chila group, composed of wide volcanic craters that overlap and are intersected by other cone-shaped volcanoes, includes Aseruta (5,447 m), Cerro de Chila (5,654 m), and Cerro Casiri (5,647 m).

Itinerary

Day 1: Arequipa - Acclimatization - Chivay (3,600 m)

We depart from Arequipa, stopping at the Aguada Blanca and Salinas reserves. Afterwards, we'll have a coca tea break. At the pass located at 4,900 m, we'll do an acclimatization hike for the following days. In the Chucura Valley, we'll do another acclimatization hike, and if you're acclimatized, we'll continue ascending to Huarancante (5,426 m). We'll then descend to the Colca Canyon, located at 3,600 m, where we'll spend the night.

Day 2: Chivay - Source of the Amazon - Carhuasanta Valley

Very early, we depart towards Tuti. Here we'll go to the source of the Amazon River (5,152 meters above sea level). Depending on our acclimatization, we may climb Nevado Mismi (5,597 m). Today we camp at approximately 4900 meters above sea level.

Day 3: Carhuasanta to Apacheta. Today we head towards the Apacheta ravine, which was long believed to be the source of the Amazon. Overnight at the foot of Apacheta. We will hike for approximately 5 hours.

Day 4: Apacheta to Quehuisha. Overnight in Chivay.

Today we continue our trek towards Quehuisha, ascending the slopes of Quehuisha and descending to Lari and the La Calera hot springs.

Day 5: Visit to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint and travel to Arequipa.

Minimum 2 people.

No departures in December, January, and February due to rain.

 

Includes:

- Private 4x4 transportation for all 5 days of the trip.

- Official high-mountain guide (English/Spanish)

- Camping equipment and food during the trek.

- 1 Porter to carry food and camping equipment

- Necessary mountaineering equipment such as crampons, ice axe, and rope (if needed)
