The Salkantay Trek, one of the world's best treks, takes you to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The trek also includes exciting experiences and offers the opportunity to enjoy Peru's flora, fauna, and culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA

Our transportation will pick us up at approximately 5:00 a.m. to depart for Mollepata (9200 m.a.s.l.), where we will arrive at approximately 7:00 a.m. Mollepata is a small village located at an altitude of 2,850 m.a.s.l. It has a temperate climate and cloud forest vegetation. Around the village, we can appreciate some snow-capped peaks belonging to the Salkantay mountain range, which reach an altitude of approximately 4,000-5,000 m.a.s.l. After breakfast, we will begin a hike of approximately 7 to 8 hours. We will have lunch along the way, and then we will continue until we reach Soraypampa, the site of our first camp.

Day 2: SORAYPAMPA - CHAULLAY

After breakfast and watching the sunrise with the Salkantay tropical snow-capped mountain in the background, we will begin a hike of approximately 7 to 8 hours. During this hike, we will clearly observe the ecotone and the difference between the ecological and altitudinal zones. We will start by entering a kind of canyon that will take us to the foothills of Salkantay, followed by the Salkantay Pass, a route along the side of the impressive snow-capped mountain. Afterward, we will descend to Wayrapampa for lunch, and then continue to CHAULLAY where we will spend the night.

Day 3: CHAULLAY - LA PLAYA - SANTA TERESA - AGUAS CALIENTES

This day we will begin our hike very early, enjoying a landscape and temperature different from the previous days, as the temperate climate typical of the cloud forest begins here. During the tour, we will observe various birds, mammals, insects, and other local animals. We will have the opportunity to observe the way of life of the local people and enjoy the Waynapoco waterfalls. Afterward, we will take our transportation to the Machu Picchu hydroelectric station and hike for 3 hours to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

Today is the big day to explore the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. At 6:00 AM, we will begin our ascent to Machu Picchu for a guided tour. This hike takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will have the opportunity to spend 3 hours with the guide. Afterward, you will have free time to explore the Inca citadel on your own. At the agreed-upon time, we will begin our descent to the town of Aguas Calientes to board the train that will take us to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will be met and transferred to the city of Cusco.
